8to8 State of Creative Emergency

Sunday April 22, 2012 | Curator Artist Blanka Amezkua: www.blankaamezkua.com

Join us for creating a plastic bag sculpture in public space!

Every time you buy fruits and vegetables at the local market you bring home lots of plastic bags.
We can use them in new and different ways.

Let’s give them a second life!
Let’s make new from old!
Let’s be creative!
Let’s create something beautiful out of something disposable!

When: Sunday April 22, 2012 | 8am to 8pm

What: A gathering of everyone, old and young, to do something constructive and fun together.
If you have clean transparent plastic bags to spare, they will be very welcome (but not obligatory). Most importantly bring yourself!

Where: Dionysiou Areopagitou, Athens, Greece

Thank you everybody who came and participated and hung out and brought along plastic bags! Thank you Blanka for great organization and support and photos!
I did not expect so much interest, so many people to talk to, so many different ages and backgrounds to get to know a bit. To give an example: I had a chat early that morning with a Greek woman who told me that she was actually reusing plastic bags as a hobby. She would take pieces of them and melt them together in order to create for instance colourful flowers for decoration or jewelry. I talked to people from Australia, from the Netherlands and from France; I talked to retired people and to kids. Every one of them shared a small piece of his or her person with me.
I think the aspect that I liked most about this project was to experience the creative side of people, there interest in making things.
